We are going to do things a little different as we make our attempt to get a conversation started in this nascent field of Critical Korean Studies. First off, this little journal will not be a peer-reviewed, haughty and hoighty-toity outlet for doctorate-level professors types. We feel that there are a lot more folks out there who have something academically or intellectually thoughtful to say about Korea, Korean culture/society, and anything else related to things Korean, however that can be reasonably defined. Along those lines, we would like to solicit thoughtful essays/treatises/arguments of nearly any type/format/medium that can present a clear argument about things Korean, along academically/theoretically critical lines:
A Paper
If it be traditional prose, we'd like something written by you, submitted with sources and references, perhaps a term paper that was well-received, or something you wrote from scratch, which might clock in at around 10-12 pages in Word, or around 2,000-2,500 words or so.
A Photo Essay
Submitted in a form of your liking, but we need to be able to get up some higher-rez images, so make sure they're at least 1,000 pixels across.
A Video
Send us a link to a video that's smart and tightly presented -- in short, good. Please send us your own work. We're not a video sharing service. If you wnat to share a really good video that's not yours, put it on your Facebook.
Anything Else We Haven't Thought Of
Point is, the format doesn't much matter, as long as it's something worth sharing that can start a conversation, and which we can be able to reasonably share here.
Please be sure to give us your name, occupation, and location, as well as a short bio a few sentences long written in the third person. Email files in digestible ways, such as in a Word document or a JPEG file. Videos need to be thrown up somewhere so you can just give us a link (YouTube is easiest).
Oh -- a Theme?
Since this is the first one, we'll leaave it open -- if you've got a smartypants thing to say about Korea -- especially as it has to do with Cultural Studies and/or Popular Culture (we like that -- the fresh themes and topics, the more edgy and risque, the better), we're game. Got stuff you want to get out there and lay claim to in public but too scared to publish it elsewhere? We'll publish it! If you want to publish under a pseudonym, we'll do that, as long as you make arrangements with us separately.
